Who says only computer geeks build websites? You can, too, and you don’t even have to read tons of books or sign up for an endless parade of classes. All you need is Adobe Dreamweaver and tutorials like DreamweaverMadeSimple or any Dreamweaver book you can get your hands on.
Note, though, that video tutorials like DreamweaverMadeSimple make better learning tools than Dreamweaver books for the reason that you get to see first-hand how some processes are done. A Dreamweaver book would textually describe how to work with layers and switch on grids. DreamweaverMadeSimple would actually show you which buttons to click, where these buttons are, and what they’re for.
Description or demonstration? It’s no contest at all. You learn better from show and tell, after all. Here are some more tips that will help you get started with Dreamweaver.
1. Manage your site.
Dreamweaver utilizes site management to keep files you need but don’t want to show up on your website just yet. One such file are your design templates. You can manage your site in two ways: using Site or via FTP. If you are working locally, manage your website using Site. If otherwise, use FTP.
2. Use extensions.
These are separate files you can install and de-install quickly. They can perform many functions and thus, speed up the building process. One example is the generator Lorum Ipsum which lets you insert as many as five paragraphs of content.
3. Validate your site.
Why go through all the trouble of mechanically spotting website problems? Validate it! Dreamweaver comes with a validating tool. What does validation do? It gives you an overview of site problems that will potentially influence your search engine ranking. Think photos that Google will index but give less rank because it cannot classify the photo.
Dreamweaver can be a breeze to work with if you know how it works. The more you get to know Dreamweaver, the better it will work for you — like a dream!
